Holiday Happenings

The holiday season is a busy one here on the peninsula with a plethora of fun activities. I've compiled a list of some of my favorites for you to enjoy! Friday 12/2 - San Carlos - Night of Holiday Lights Two blocks along Laurel Street are closed down for music, holiday lights, family fun and rides. They do a special lighting ceremony at 6:30PM and snow will fall at the intersection of Laurel Street and Cherry Street. In fact, myself and Horticare are this year's snow sponsors! We will have a tent and table next to Peet's  -- look for the Dwell orange pop-up tent and come by and say...

“How Did You Find San Carlos” Blog Contest Winner!

Many thanks for the submissions to my "How Did You Find San Carlos" Blog Contest. It was fun reading the stories of native San Carlans along with folks like myself who heard about "The City of Good Living" from friends or family. The contest winner is Gail Langkusch, who has lived in San Carlos since she was 1 year old! Here is Gail's story: My parents moved me here in 1952 when I was one-year-old! Bought new house on Brittan Avenue between Tamarack and Cordilleras. Sidewalks were not yet put in, and Brittan Avenue ended at Alameda de las Pulgas. Once we had sidewalks and lawns, the neighborhood kids would...

How I Found San Carlos

In my last post, I had a comment challenge for my first responder to pick my next blog post subject. The winner suggested that I write about how my family & I ended up in San Carlos. You may need a little more background to get the full story. I was born and raised in a beautiful suburb of Los Angeles, Palos Verdes. I stretched my southern California roots a few hours north to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for college. Several of my college roommates were from the bay area and treated me to northern California visits to acquaint myself. I loved the bay area for its...

New Salad Restaurant Coming to San Carlos!

Our Dwell office is on the southern end of Laurel Street in San Carlos which has experienced recent growth in the past few years with the addition of Trader Joe's and several popular restaurants like Johnston's Saltbox, Three Pigs, and The Office. I'm always looking for healthy dining out options and luckily we have another excellent option coming soon - The Toss! I reached out to The Toss owner, Tracy Everett, a local San Carlos mom to get the scoop. There's something to be said for a woman starting her own business with passion and excitement AND even more so when it is in my town and...

Interview with the new Arroyo School Principal

This morning I sat down with Marie Crawford, Principal of Arroyo School. Marie graciously answered my questions amidst the flurry of activity to get the new school ready for their ribbon cutting ceremony Monday, August 22nd at 4:00PM and the first day of school on Wednesday, August 24th. Alana: What are you most excited for? Marie: It’s the excitement in general; I have noticed it with all of the children - they are thrilled! They will come by, peek in and I’ll let them know we are still setting up and they’ll yell, “Thank you!” It’s all exciting -- the energy from the kids, the parents, the teachers. To...

Does the World Need Another Real Estate Blog?

Refreshed and invigorated from attending Inman Connect in San Francisco this week, now is a good time to write an inaugural blog post on my brand new website (Thanks Style Agent)!  For my non-real estate readers, Inman Connect is like TED Talks for the real estate industry. One of my big AH-HA moments from attending Inman Connect this week, was the reminder that my real estate practice is about you, my clients and friends, and not me. I've always known deep down, but I didn't know how to express it. The words kept hitting me and took deep meaning this week. I'll say it again...
